Easter Eggs!

Orchard School had three weeks to collect Easter eggs for the Piam Brown ward, a cancer ward for children. Our target was 200, but we collected 320 eggs! On the first of April, five Orchard children went with Mrs Fenton and Mrs Croton to Southampton General hospital, to visit the Piam Brown ward; they met some patients and staff and delivered the eggs. Everyone had a great day and had lots of fun.

An Introduction to the Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers are an American pop-rock boy band. They also starred in the hit show Camp Rock. The band gained their popularity from the Disney Channel children's television network. The band consists of three brothers, Kevin, Joe and Nick. They have released three albums, ‘A little bit longer’, ‘Jonas Brothers’ and ‘Its about time’. Their music is amazing because they rock! Their music is heartfelt, which shows when they perform, they put lots of effort into every show.

SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!

On Monday the 2nd February and Tuesday the 3rd February it ...... SNOWED !!!!
The whole school had a snow man competition and a massive snow ball fight !!
It was really fun !
While we were having all this fun , one of the South Today reporters came and interviewed
some people in Year 6. When the children were interviewed they got asked questions such as: Do you like school? We told them we liked school and enjoyed being in school even though other children weren't. Our school was the only school open in the whole of Hampshire!
Thanks to the Southern Daily Echo for a few of the photos.

Bishop Paul Visits Orchard Junior School

On Wednesday 14th January 2009 Bishop Paul, the Bishop of Southampton, came to visit Orchard and had a talk with the School’s Council. He went round to see each class and said “hello” to a lot of children – and staff! Many pupils were excited about talking to this important man. Here are a few questions we asked him:

What is it like being a Bishop?
It’s a lot of hard work and it’s quite varied. He has been a Bishop for 4 years. In total he looks after about 120 churches!

What’s your favourite part of being a bishop?
I like visiting all the different schools (Playschools, Infant schools, junior schools and Secondary schools). When I was little I wanted to either be a policeman because of my dad or an accountant because of my granddad; however I never dreamed of being a Bishop!

How often do you visit schools?
I usually visit a school around once a week.
Have you ever had to deal with something bad?
Once I had to deal with something too bad to tell !!!!!!!
It was a pleasure to have him at our school and we hope he will visit Orchard Junior again some time!

Year 6 V.E Day Party

Yr 6’s V.E Day Party

Year 6 had a V.E day party to celebrate the end of our World War 2 topic.
Everybody made cakes and dressed up. They looked FANTASTIC!!! Well done everybody!

Firstly, everyone sang loads of brilliant songs from the war era. Then everyone did the conga and was being really silly! After that every body ate the cakes that every one so generously baked for us to enjoy.

The next day we sold the leftover cakes and made £25.00 to give to the Royal British Legion. It is a charity which helps all the brave soldiers that gave their lives for our country.

Everybody in Year Six would like to say a big thanks to every one who so generously baked cakes and made the effort to dress up!
We had a BRILL time and it was a memorable day!

Solar panels

We were lucky enough to have two people from Marchwood Power Station to talk to us about our solar panels, which we have been given, and how they work.
They were called Jane and Richard Holman and they were talking about power. Our panels cost £22,000; we were given £11,000 from the govement and £11,000 from Marchwood Power Station. All four of our solar panels can generate four kilowatts each so that’s sixteen kilowatts altogether.

Jane and Richard gave our school a circuit kit; instead of batteries we got mini solar panels. They also gave us a poster showing how solar panels work.
Our solar panels help pay the bills and reduce carbon emissions; we have a box in the library that shows how much power is being produced per day, and altogether.
