Spiders!

Spiders are very scary but, they are very good as well, due to the fact that they kill flies and make silk. They are famous in programs and books like charlottes web and in a celebrity, get me out of here!
Their web is as strong as steel and their legs
are as long as a…something. Thanks for
Reading!

World War 2 Afternoon

On Monday 10th November, three grandparents who lived during the Second World War came to our school to talk and answer questions about their experiences. All of the children were interested to hear their points of view from the Second World War. One of them brought in some war posters and one other brought in a real gas mask!
Mr Crisp, Mr Park and Mrs Farman were asked these questions:

What was life like when the war ended?
How did you feel when war was declared?
Did you listen to Neville Chamberlain’s speech?
How were you treated by your host family?
What luxuries did you have that you didn’t have at home?
Where were you evacuated to and from?
Did your relatives come and visit you?
What did your family think of your new home?
Did your make any friends in your new school? How were you treated by the local children?

It was a very informative afternoon as we learnt lots of things about evacuation and what it was like for children during the war.
When you get to Year 6 at Orchard you will hopefully have a great experience like we did!

Operation Christmas Child

Another year, another Christmas, more presents. But not for some children in other countries, but you can change that by giving a small present to a boy or girl somewhere else in the world. All you need is a shoe box, a small toy and some wrapping paper. You can even choose whether your present goes to a boy or girl and what age group. You only help one child, but you make them very happy and, if we try we could help every single child in need, so, please, please give one child a happy Christmas!

Cats!

CATS
Cats belong to the group of MAMMALS called the feline family.

Although the cat family ranges in size from the small domestic breeds we keep at home to tigers, they all have many things in common.

Cats have short, rounded heads, long faces, whiskers, sharp teeth that serve as deadly weapons for grabbing and biting their prey to death, and powerful claws.
